Species description
Potateyes are one of the strangest success stories in modern science. Originally created as part of an experimental botanical growth project, an unexpected reaction transformed an ordinary potato into a fully sentient living creature. While the original experiment was deemed a failure by its creators, the resulting species quickly proved otherwise.
Today, Potateyes are cheerful, curious beings known for their infectious enthusiasm, surprising intelligence, and ability to find joy in the simplest things. Though their origins may be unusual, few creatures are more lovable or optimistic.
Appearance
Potateyes are small, rounded creatures with a body shape closely resembling the humble potato from which their species originated. Their most distinctive feature is their enormous single eye, which dominates the centre of their face — yet they are remarkably expressive, conveying a wide range of emotions through subtle changes in their gaze.
Their bodies are covered in a textured, earthy skin with natural dimples, bumps, and markings that make every individual unique. Small arms and stubby legs protrude from their rounded form, giving them an endearingly awkward but surprisingly agile way of moving. Many develop small sprouts, leaves, flowers, or other plant-like growths from the tops of their heads — natural decorations that often become a source of personal pride. Wide smiles, tiny teeth, and perpetually cheerful expressions make them one of the most approachable species in the world.

Male and female Potateyes share the same overall body structure and species characteristics. Differences are typically subtle — slight variations in body shape, unique sprout formations, differences in eye shape or colouring, or distinctive plant growth patterns. Most Potateyes retain earthy tones inspired by their origins — Golden Brown, Sandy Tan, Cream, Russet Brown, Light Yellow, Amber and Orange. Rarer variations may feature green sprouts and foliage, flowering growths, speckled skin patterns, multi-coloured patches, crystal-like sprouts, seasonal blooms, or bioluminescent markings. The colour of their eye also varies significantly, ranging from bright blue and green to amber, violet, or even multicoloured irises.
